미국 방송계의 천연기념물이며 이단아 키이쓰 올버만 Keith Olbermann 이 월가를 점령한 시위대의 포고문을 방송에서 직접 전달하고 있습니다. 아마도 오바마 대통령이 지난주말에 이 시위사태를 미국인들이 기성체제에 불만을 표한 것이라고 발언을 하게된 직접적 계기가 아니었을가 짐작해봅니다. 그 내용이 무엇인지 간략히 살펴봅니다. (피터김)

 

 

월가 자유 광장을 점거한 국민의회 공동 성명문에서

 

우리는 이곳에 대규모 부정이 저질러졌다는 감정을 표출하기 위해서 연대하여 모였다. 그래서 여기까지 우리가 집결해온 문제를 잃어버려서는 안되기에 모든 이들이 기업에 의해 저질러진 잘못된 문제에 대한 감정을 세계에 알리기 위해 이 기록을 남긴다.

한 국민으로써 연합해서 우리는 다음과 같은 현실을 인지한다. 그것은 인류의 미래가 그 구성원의 협조를 필요로 한다는 사실이다. 이는 우리 사회가 국민의 권리를 보호해야하는데 사실 이 체제의 부패에 압도되어져 있다. 그러니 우리와 이웃들의 권리를 보호하기 위해서 각자 개인에게 달려있다는 것이 문제이다. 민주적인 정부라면 국민으로부터 권력을 도출하는데 반해서 기업들은 국민의 재산을 끌어가는데 어떤 동의도 구하지 않고 있다. 이런 문제는 지구 자원에 대해서도 마찬가지다. 그러므로 경제 권력자들이 수행하는 과정에서는 어떤 민주적 절차도 이행되지 않고 있다.

우리는 기업들이 국민에 대해 이익을 도출함에 있어서 정의를 무시한채 자기 이익에 몰두하며 평등을 무시하고 강제적 방법을 쓰며 우리 정부를 이용하여 일을 하는 시기에 와있다.

우리는 이곳에 우리 권리로써 이러한 사실을 알리기 위해서 평화적으로 모였다. 그들은 우리 주택을 불법적 차압절차를 강요해서 빼았았는데 이는 본래의 모기지 주택대출의 계약을 무시한 행위이다.

그들은 불법적 방법을 동원하여 납세자로부터 구제금융을 받았다 그럼에도 불구하고 계속해서 기업의 상층부는 초고액의 상여금을 받고 있는 실정이다.

그들은 일터에서 연령에 따라 불평등과 차별을 가하고 있으며 이런 차별대우는 인종에 대해 가해지고, 성별, 성적 분별에 관해서도 가해지고 있다.

그들은 식량공급에 있어서 무지하기에 식량의 질을 떨어뜨리고 있으며 기업의 독점행위로 인해서 농가생산을 잠식하고 있다.

그들은 동물들을 헤아릴 수없이 가두고 고문하고 잔인한 방법으로 사육하고 있으며 이를 철저히 감추느라고 혈안이 되어있다.

그들은 기업 고용자들을 끊임없이 성적 인사관리로 괴롭히며 더 나은 급여나 안전한 작업 자리를 미끼로 불안하게 하고 있다.

그들은 대학생을 인질로 잡았는데 학비로 수만달러를 빚을 졌기 때문이다. 사실 학비라는 것이 인간의 권리가 아닌가?

그들은 끊임없이 노동자를 아웃소싱한다. 그래서 현재 일하는 직원의 건강보험료와 급여를 삭감하는 수단으로 써왔다.

그들은 이제 국민처럼 법정에서 행세하며 대우를 받고 있는데 그럼에도 불구하고 기업이란 것은 책임이 있거나 과실을 물고 있지 않다.

그들은 수백만 달러를 법률팀에 사용해서 건강보험료를 근로 계약에서 배제하는 교묘한 술책을 고안해냈다.

그들은 우리 국민의 자존권을 일반 상품정보처럼 팔아먹는다. 그들은 군대와 경찰력을 써서 언론자유를 방해해왔다.

그들은 오류가 있는 상품을 회수하여 교체하는 책무를 거부하는데 이는 이익을 추구하느라 국민의 삶을 위험에 처하게 했다.

그들은 경제정책을 자기들 마음대로 정하고 있는데 그런 정책이 야기한 파멸적인 실패를 보면서도 그러고 있는 것이다.

그들은 정치인에게 막대한 헌금을 하고 있는데 그 정치인이란 자들은 정작 기업을 규제해야 할 자들이 아니었던가?

그들은 이미 대체 에너지 기술이 나와 있음에도 이를 막고 있는데 그런 수작을 통해서 국민이 석유에 계속 의존케 하고 있지 않은가?

그들은 자연제품인 의약품으로 국민의 생명을 구하려 하지않는다. 그렇게 해서 그들이 막대한 이익을 벌수있는 제약 제품만을 국민에게 강요한다.

그들은 고의적으로 석유유출사고를 은폐하고 엉터리 장부를 기록하고 비활성 첨가물을 집어넣고 있는데 오로지 이익을 키우려 그 짓을 한다.

그들은 국민의 알권리를 무시하고 조작된 정보를 공급하고 있는데 그들의 언론 통제기법을 통해서 국민에게 공포감을 조성하고 있기까지 하다.

그들은 죄형의 유무가 불분명한 수감자에게 조차 사적으로 살인 계약을 맺기 까지 한다.

그들은 국내에서건 해외에서건 식민주의를 추구하고 있다.

그들은 해외에서 고문을 일상화하고 무고한 시민을 살해하고 있다.

그들은 정부의 계약을 따려고 대량 파괴 목적의 무기를 끊임없이 개발하고 있다.

 

세계의 시민에게 고한다.

우리 뉴욕시에서 월가의 자유 광장을 점거한 국민의회 General Assembly 는 당신들이 스스로의 권력을 주창해주길 촉구한다.

당신들의 권력을 평화적으로 모여서 주창해달라. 공공 공간을 점거하고, 우리가 직면한 문제를 여론화할 절차를 만들어 달라. 그리고 모든이들이 참여할 일반적인 해결책을 고안해내라.

직접민주주의의 정신에 입각해서 행동을 취하는 모든 공동체에게 우리는 지원할 것이고 문서를 보내고 우리가 할 수있는 자원을 보내겠다. 우리에게 합류하고 당신의 목소리가 들리도록 해달라.

The Official Declaration of the Occupation of Wall Street read by Keith Olbermann 10-05 2011

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power.

We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments.

We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.

They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.

They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one's skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.

They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.

They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.

They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.

They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.

They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers' healthcare and pay.

They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.

They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.

They have sold our privacy as a commodity.

They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.

They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.

They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.

They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.

They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.

They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people's lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit.

They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.

They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.

They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.

They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.

They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.

They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

To the people of the world,

We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, 　　　　documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.
